Since it was Skyla's very first Christmas, and since we wanted to make the day last as long as possible, we had two separate celebrations with family. Everyone came over to our house in the morning for brunch, which was so fun! Skyla was wearing her Christmas Eve outfit, which everyone loved. She was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to get our Christmas party started! She was so excited to see her big cousin Roma in her pretty Christmas outfit, and equally excited to see Uncle Geordie, who helped her stand to pose for a picture.
Roma just loves to hold Skyla like a little doll. It's a little too hard to do this standing up, but sitting on the couch is just right!
We decided to eat brunch first, and luckily the kiddos were happy to wait to open presents (obviously Skyla didn't know what was going on, but I was still happy that she was so accommodating). I made all kinds of awesome things, including french toast casserole, Caesar salad, and butternut squash lasagna. We also enjoyed some of my mom's delicious coffee cake, and a batch of Tory's pickles, based on his grandma's secret family recipe.
Even though Skyla isn't big enough to sit in a chair at the table, she was right by our side enjoying the action. And even though she isn't big enough to eat the same food, she sure seemed interested in it! Our doctor said as soon as she starts smacking her lips and trying to grab our food as we eat it, she's ready for solids -- then the real adventure begins! We did our best to keep her in the conversation and she was happy to be included:
As soon as we were done eating brunch it was time to open presents! We were so excited to help our girls open their gifts.
We got all situated in front of the tv and the cousins decided to have some snuggles before opening the presents.
My dad forgot his camera so I told him to use mine to take action shots. He took 10 million and I tried to narrow it down to just the best, but there are so many cute ones it's really hard to do! Probably the best moment was when Skyla opened her presents -- I only had to help a little bit! First up is an adorable outfit my dad brought her from China:
There are many other cute ones just like that. Another great moment was when Roma opened her gift from us -- a personalized book all about her! -- and Geordie read it to her. And a couple of other gift highlights: a red dress from Mommy and Daddy to wear to Christmas dinner, an adorable doll from Roma, and Patriots gear from Nana.
One final highlight of the morning: Tory got Jolene for Secret Santa and got her a nice gift, which he wrapped very creatively (they say necessity is the mother of invention, and we were all out of wrapping paper, so...) After she finished unwrapping the gift, we made a big show of pretending there was something else that she didn't unwrap. We looked through the box, then Tory went downstairs to get the actual gift: a breakfast in bed table that he made!
There were lots of great moments from that morning and too many to show here but we know our girl had a good time and that was our goal!
