Last Day at CCSF

Today was bittersweet.  It was our last chance to go to CCSF since they are not open during the summer, but Skyla exhibited a major milestone: she walked over to the art table, sat down by herself, and drew a beautiful, colorful picture!  I walked over to see how she was doing after about 10 minutes, and she was quietly using one marker to draw.  All of the other markers had their caps on so she was taking very good care of all the supplies.  I was so proud of her and she was so proud of herself!  We had an amazing time at CCSF this year and can't wait until it starts again in August!

Maine

We went to Maine in mid-May to visit Tory's family after Brenda had a stroke.  It was a difficult trip but we were very happy that we were able to go and provide some help.  We visited her in Portland as much as we could while we were there, and tried to take care of as much as we could to help Kristin.  Tory was very busy the whole time helping as much as he could, and I tried to entertain Skyla even though we couldn't do any of our normal activities.  We played in the rain, hung out with her cousins, ate some delicious food (especially on Mother's Day in downtown Portland -- yum!) and explored beautiful Camden, including their awesome library.  All things considered, it was a good trip, and the best part of all: Skyla slept for almost the ENTIRE flight home!  Yay!

New Carseat!

I don't do any shopping for myself anymore, but when I get to buy something for Skyla, we both get really excited!  We finally bought her a new carseat since she was spilling out of the old one.  We decided to go with the next size up in the Orbit so it can still fit on the stroller.  We had to go kind of far away to find it, but the experience was actually really fun -- especially once Skyla figured out what we were buying!  She loved trying out all the carseats they had in the store, and got very excited when she got to try hers for the first time.  They had a "carseat specialist" install it for us and we decided to put it in facing front -- a big milestone!  Our little girl is growing up so fast!

Family Fun in San Jose

Kyle and his family came up for a visit as part of an alumni soccer game he was playing in at Santa Clara.  The visit was a bit of a surprise, but Skyla and I made it to San Jose so we could see them.  We met up with them at their hotel and splashed in the pool for a bit, then hung out at my parents' house.  One of the best things was seeing how happy Skyla was around her cousins; she could tell immediately that they were very special friends and she just lit up the whole time watching them play.

The next day we went to Santa Clara to watch the game.  It was blistering hot and I was feeling really sick (morning sickness, but I couldn't say anything cause it was still hush hush!) but I stuck it out.  We escaped the heat for a bit by going into a tunnel up above the stands and watched the big kids play soccer with Uncle Geordie.  Mostly I just hung out with Colleen and got all caught up -- it was great cause I hadn't seen her in a long time!  It was a great weekend overall.  We're hoping to make a trip to see them very soon!

Zoe's Bday Party

We went to a 2nd birthday party for our friend/neighbor Zoe at Upper Noe Rec Center recently and it was great!  They rented out a big room and it had all kinds of toys, bikes, and cars for the kids to play with.  We had pizza and Skyla even had a little bit of ice cream cake :)  I can't believe Skyla will be celebrating this milestone so soon!

Raffi!

We got to see Raffi perform in Berkeley and it was so fun!  The whole family came to see him and all his songs brought back memories.  I didn't realize how many famous songs he had written!  He ended with his two most famous ones: "Baby Beluga" and "Down by the Bay," which brought down the house :)  Lots of fun!

Music Class

My friend Keyara invited me to a music class at a local music store recently.  I decided to give it a shot because it's different than most of the things we usually do.  It was a lot of fun, but at $20 for 40 minutes, we will definitely NOT be going back!  Unfortunately, I've found that all music classes are around that price, and I guess most parents in this neighborhood can afford it.  I think I'll stick to our Parks and Rec classes at $4 per hour!  Anyway I snapped a few pics of the kiddos having a grand ol' time trying out their new skills after the class was over:
