After our big visit to see Santa, we thought the only way to top it was to make a gingerbread house! Tory found a place called Gingerbread Builders, a cute little seasonal store in the Marina where you can go decorate your own gingerbread house. Our girl was totally thrilled to be there, as you can see:
When we arrived they gave us a pre-made gingerbread house (to our relief, since we had just seen a segment on The Today Show where they talked about how it takes 48 hours for one section to dry!) and a bucket filled with supplies. Based on the size of the gingerbread house we ordered, we got to choose a certain amount of candy to decorate it. I chose a nice selection and we got to work.
We got right to work, and I was very surprised to see how talented Tory was in the whole thing! He made a chimney out of Starburst and this little bratty kid (whose parents must have spent no less than $100 on their gingerbread house and all the extra candy) saw our chimney and whined loudly that he wanted one too. So they had to redo the beautiful roof they'd spend a lot of time on just to accommodate him. The salesgirl brought over some extra gingerbread scraps for us to use however we wanted, and Tory made a doghouse and a little dog! He also made a swing for the "yard"! She said in all the time she's worked there she's never seen one like it. Here are the best shots of our candy cottage:
When we were finished the girl wrapped up our creation in plastic so we could enjoy it for a while and took a few pics of the family enjoying their handiwork.
